Transport Wheelchairs

When you have to transport wheelchairs and other mobility devices, you’ll find the task an unpleasant, difficult one unless you can employ the proper tools. For some, this means acquiring the special lift equipment that can raise and lower an individual in a wheelchair in and out of a vehicle. However, for most wheelchair transport simply involves having a wheelchair that is not a burden to carry around.

Lightweight transport wheelchairs have become much more commonplace and easy to locate for purchase than in the past. Products like the Excel Freedom Transport wheelchair weigh less than 15 pounds, much lighter than the average transport wheelchair of the past. Many of these new lightweight transport wheelchair models also come with carrying cases into which the folded model stows for easy of toting with a handle.

With the continued improvement of public accessibility to individuals in wheelchairs, transport wheelchairs and walkers have become even more prevalent in society, helping those with conditions and ailments that prevent them from walking enjoy the same spaces and courtesies as those with fully functional legs. The DMI transport wheelchair is another model that has evolved into a transport wheelchair with higher seat options so that it is easier for an individual to maintain eye level contact with people standing on two legs.

While transport wheelchairs have always been an option, a wheelchair water transport has not. In fact, it has only been recently that many ships and cruisers have opened up and become accessible for wheelchairs, creating the need for such devices that will not be corroded by sea air and will not roll around unnecessarily in choppy waters that rock the ship.

Some wheelchair self transport options are available, including some that will fold themselves upon the touch of a button, much like an inflatable boat would do. Transport wheelchairs have come a long way from the bulky manual chair that weighed a ton and were hard to store in a vehicle due to their size. Now, with lightweight, foldable chairs that even come with carrying cases, toting these vehicles is a breeze. There is no reason for a handicapped or disabled person to leave home without a transport wheelchair for use when they reach their destination. While public areas are wheelchair friendly now, it does no good if there are no individuals around making use of these changes and showing the world that they, too, can participate in everyday life.
